Winner art competition Epigenetic Inheritance Symposium 2023

At the 4th edition of the Epigenetic Inheritance Symposium, every participant was invited to propose a piece of art on the theme of epigenetic inheritance. The pieces were exhibited during the symposium and the most original and creative piece was awarded. We received four submission, and selected the painting by Signe Skog as the winner. Signe Skop is a PhD student at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV) of the Linköping University in Sweden. 

"Swimmer" represents the role of sperm in epigenetic inheritance.

'Break' is an album that unfolds like a cinematic experience, showcasing Meak's diverse musical influences. With gentle yet provocative lyrics, he navigates life's joys and darkness, inviting listeners on a poetic journey.

"Débarrassé des traditions qui pour moi sont franchement toxiques. J'ai vu des schémas qui s'répètent, qui s'répètent. Quand j'ai fouillé dans les petites lettres des ancêtres. J'ai vu les larmes qui reviennent, qui reviennent. Sans que personne n'arrête les malédictions diluviennes. Donc stop."

The artwork draws its inspiration from the lecture 'Legacy of Trauma', held by Isabelle Mansuy in 2020. The groundbreaking idea that our ancestors' emotions and experiences, often hidden from our conscious awareness, can be passed down through epigenetic gene markingsserved as a captivating foundation for an artistic exploration of transgenerational memory and its profound implications.

Sandrine Donnio Renaud's artistic journey began with a deep-rooted connection to her family's sculptural heritage. Growing up surrounded by the monumental works of sculptor Francis Renaud, her childhood was imbued with an understanding of form and symbolism. Years later, after a career in business, Sandrine discovered her innate talent for clay sculpting, feeling an immediate bond with her ancestral legacy. Her sculptures, crafted from raw materials, capture the essence of humanity. Through the interplay of hollows and fullness, she reveals the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability, embodying the intricate beauty of the human spirit.

Flo[rence] David Razoux

Flo is a researcher and artist, who bridges science and art. Their scientific research focuses on neurobiology and emotions, while their artistic creations challenge perceptions of identity and the mind-body connection. Through multimedia, Razoux offers immersive experiences, inviting audiences to question established norms and explore new perspectives.
